The Teams Kakashi and Gai are too late to rescue Gaara-Sama. The Naruto Shippuuden 17 revealed that the Akatsuki members were already finished extracting the Shukaku from the body of Gaara, and therefre Gaara was already dead.
It’s for sure that Gaara was already dead. The grand-grand mother Gaara revealed this truth to the team Kakashi, that everytime the Shukaku was extracted from the body of its host, the host died. According to Chiyo-Baasama, the Shukaku was extracted three times from Sand’s Shukaku hosts and the last host is Gaara. And it was she who sealed the Shukaku to Gaara.
Now, on this new episode (18) the Naruto Shippuuden will tell us how the teams Kakashi and Gai completely unsealed the opening of the cave where the Akatsuki did the extraction of the Shukaku from Gaaraa-Sama’s body.
They’re entry to the cave will be mean the start of the battle between the two teams against Akatsuki. This will be the first real battle that you’ll witnessed as the Konoha Shinobi deal with the most powerful criminal organization.
I know, that the Konoha Shinobi meet the Akatsuki on the first Naruto series. But there’s no real battle there because the Akatsuki, specifically Itachi and Kisame retreated from the battle two times. And then previous episodes, Itachi and Kisame were just using the complete-substitutes in fighting the two teams.
However, I think this real first battle against the Akatsuki will not be dealt by Itachi and Kisame. Since the accomplisher of the mission to take Shukaku are Sasori and Deidara, in other words, it will be Sasori and Deidara who will face their enemies.
